Intended Use

Enzyme immunoassay for the quantitative determination of human Chromogranin A (CgA) in serum or plasma (EDTA) in adults.

For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Summary and Explanation

Chromogranin A (CgA) is a water-soluble, acidic glycoprotein, predominantly located in the chromaffin granules of neuroendocrine cells. As a member of the granin protein family, CgA serves as a precursor to several biologically active peptides, which are produced through tissue-specific proteolytic cleavage. These peptides, including vasostatins, chromostatin, pancreastatin, and parastatin, play important roles in regulating cellular communication through paracrine and autocrine mechanisms.
The breakdown of Chromogranin A mainly occurs within chromaffin granules inside the cell, and the resulting peptide fragments can vary depending on the tissue type.
