Oxidative injury is a fact of life. Life requires energy, and the electron transport chain – an essential part of energy generation – produces reactive oxygen species (ROS) as a by-product. ROS cause oxidative damage to all cellular components including lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. Products in this chapter relate to this research area.
