Hochsensitiver Enzymimmunoassay für die quantitative Bestimmung von Serotonin in niedrig konzentriertenProben und für kleine Probenvolumina. Serotonin (5-Hydroxytryptamin) gehört in die Gruppe der biogenen Amine und ist ein Intermediärprodukt des Tryptophanstoffwechsels. Es ist ein gut dokumentierter Neurotransmitter des zentralen Nervensystems und ist in hohen Konzentrationen in den chromaffinen Zellen der Darmschleimhaut, in den Thrombozyten und den serotonergen Neuronen des Gehirns nachweisbar.Zentral-serotonerge Neuronen beeinflussen physiologische Funktionen wie z. B. den Schlaf sowie diehormonelle und kardio-vaskuläre Regulation. Erhöhte Serumspiegel werden bei malignem Karzinoid, beiendogener Depression und Schizophrenie beobachtet. Serotonin ist ein spezifischer Tumormarker für dasmaligne Karzinoid.
