DPP4/CD26 is a 110kDa, type2 transmembrane glycoprotein. It is expressed on the surface of most cell types and is associated with immune regulation, signal transduction and apoptosis.. Its soluble form also exists in body fluids. Furthermore, DPP4 is serine exopeptidase that cleaves X-proline dipeptides from the N-terminus of polypeptides. Such polypeptide substrates are inter alia various hormones, chemokines and the incretins (GLP-1 and GIP). The incretins have a major function in promoting insulin secretion after food intake. As the incretins are cleaved by DPP4/CD26 and thereby loose their activity, DPP4/CD26 inhibitors have been developed as diabetes drugs. It has also been shown that DPP4/CD26 appears to work as a suppressor in the development of cancer and tumours. It has various roles both in physiological and pathophysiological aspects.
This ELISA kit measures DPP4/CD26 in serum, EDTA plasma, urine and CSF.
